Saeri Cho Dobson

Picture

Saeri Cho Dobson challenges the commonly–held belief that words live on a page, by transforming letterforms into characters that act upon a stage. With spellbinding type craft and rhythmic word spacing, she dignifies text, its meaning and pacing. By deftly weaving dynamic and dimensional graphic voices into artfully orchestrated typeset words, her characteristically narrative explorations offer multicultural perspectives on contemporary issues of social import. Equality through typography... Past works in both print and new media expand the boundaries between type as text, and type as texture. Her experimental typography has been exhibited in galleries in New Zealand, Seoul Korea, Mexico and Los Angeles. Her artistic pursuit of justice and moral responsibility and focus on educating the whole person are both hallmarks of her dynamic teaching philosophy. Prior to her appointment at LMU, she taught visual communication design at NanYang Technological University in Singapore. Professor Cho Dobson holds a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York, and a MFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
